Rural New England, Circa 1750 Made in solid tiger maple (shown) or figured cherry, our award-winning pipe box has bookmatched-grain front and back panels, a hand-dovetailed poplar drawer and exuberant shaping of the front and crest. The pull is plain, antiqued brass. The crest is pierced for hanging; this box is great at the mantel for pipes, of course, but is also very tasteful on the wall as a letter box or with dried flowers in it. Originally, these boxes held inexpensive long-stemmed clay pipes that the tavern owner provided; patrons would enjoy a pipe with friends and, when finished, break off the used tip of the mouthpiece and return the pipe to the box. Approx. 5 x 7 1/2 x 18" tall. $219.00 plus shipping and tax, if applicable. |
