Rural New England, circa 1795 This award-winning table was designed by Lorren L. Hammond to capture the charm of the best "country" pieces of the 18th century, which combine good craftsmanship and pleasing proportions with a certain naïveté of design; it is a happy fusion of (then) current and earlier styles. It is made with solid cherry that has a light "flame" to the grain and a few pin-knots and mineral veins (beautiful in tiger-maple, too). |

The table's aprons and top have bold, exuberant shaping (an apt mirror of the independent-minded early Americans who originally created tables like this) and are deeply undercut to accentuate the curves, lobes, and spurs. Hand-planing gives the table a crisp depth and clarity. The table is finished with warm orange shellacs, with a topcoat of lacquer for added protection. The drawer pull is a simple, antiqued brass knob. Approx. 18" x 18" x 27" tall. $795.00 plus shipping and sales tax, if applicable. |
