George III Walnut Side Tables

Tables and stands were made in a huge array of types and styles in the Colonies and early America. The dining table as we know it today was rare until the Federal period (1780-1830) because houses were generally too small for rooms solely for dining. Instead, earlier homes had versatile folding or drop-leaf tables for dining in the main room, which could then be folded and moved back against a wall when not in use. Our growing collection includes tea tables, dining tables, and others.
