"Truly exceptional furniture, like a great wine or a satisfying tale, is made up of hundreds of little things, each done exactly right."

All of our furniture and accessories are designed by Lorren L. Hammond. Those in period styles incorporate the best details and proportions of a given locale and time. The process of making L.L. Hammond furniture begins with exceptional hardwood logs; we harvest and dry nearly all of our own wood. Thus, many of our pieces have primary wood all from one log or tree, and we carefully match grains.
Construction is as "period" as possible, with wide boards where appropriate, mortise and tenon joints, forged nails, and our characteristic steep, bold hand-cut dovetails.

We saw much of our own veneer and make all of our own inlays. Carving and turnings are done by hand and finish surfaces are hand-planed. Wood worked with hand-tools is unmistakable; where modern sandpapers leave a dull, abraded surface, our tools leave crisp surfaces with a deep, rich clarity. Finishes include our own formulations of dyes and warm golden shellacs, and sometimes a protective coat of lacquer, all carefully hand-rubbed.
Our hardware is cast or reproduced from spectacular antique originals and is matched, like each piece, to time period and locale. All this effort results in furniture that wins awards and accolades from experts in period furniture at the major auction houses and museums throughout the East.
